My visa should be here some time next week.
Inside I am saying "This is happening; it is really happening." Outside I am really cool. I even appear to be organized. What a lie.
On a more serious note. The US public reaction to the events in Paris and the plight of the refugees is sure to create an educational nightmare. Here are young children already traumatized by the events in their war torn country. Now they are persona non grata thanks to extremists. They will come to our country with a myriad of physical, social, and psychological needs. They will become of the victims of misinformation, lies, and bureaucratic inefficiency. Once they are settled into schools, they will be bullied by those students whose parents believe that all refugees are somehow connected to terrorism.
How do you fight this? How do you take a scared child, convince them they are safe, and then get them to learn a new language, a new way of life, when others around them are spewing hate?
This is the real question I need to answer.
