This first picture is where I work. From here to my apartment is about a mile. When I leave for work in the morning, I usually walk the entire way. After work I am usually tired, so I walk part of the way and ride the bus part of the way.
Below you will see the sidewalk outside of the School of Education. See how wide it is? Also it is made of asphalt, which is soft and makes a great surface for walkers.
Many places around Queen's University Belfast are made for walkers and bikers.
I know some of you are looking at that car and wondering why it is half way on the sidewalk. That is common here. If a person can't get past it, and the police see, they will write a warning and leave it on the car.

This is the first crosswalk I encounter leaving work. When I punch the button on the light pole, it stops all traffic. This means that all pedestrians can cross. This is great because it makes it easy for everyone to cross the street - another incentive to walk.

The Music Building is gorgeous. I know a young man majoring in music who belongs in this building.
This is the sidewalk that runs in front of the university. Not only is it wide, but you can tell by the trees that there is plenty of shade in spring and summer.
This is the sidewalk that takes me home. Do you see those lights? There is no street there for the cars, yet there are lights. This is another crosswalk. It helps residents move from one side of the street to another for shopping and other purposes.
